Steps to disable the 2-step verification of Gmail account

2-step verification secures your Gmail account. Someone can easily break into your account once you remove the verification steps.
Turn off the 2-step verification process
  • Sign-in to your Gmail account. In My Account section, move to Signing in & Security. Now you have to sign-in by entering the verification, username and password.
  • Now select the option ‘Turn off 2-Step Verification’.
  • Next a pop-up appears to confirm the option if you are sure to turn-off the 2-step verification. You need to select Ok.
Revoke the app passwords
Errors occur when you turn off the 2-Step verification, if you used the App Password to authorize applications for accessing the Gmail account. You need to revoke the app password as follows:
  • Go to the My Account section of your Gmail account.
  • Now select ‘Signing in to Google’, in Sign-in & Security section.
  • Next choose App passwords. If asked reenter the password again.
  • Select the option ‘Revoke’ for the application or device you want to revoke.
Note: Remove and delete all the backup codes you have been using for verifying the account.
